Gilera was a pre WWII Italian manufacturer that survived the war. In fact, in the immediate aftermath of the war Giuseppe Gilera decided that Italy needed cheap reliable transportation to help with war recovery. Enter the Gilera 125 that became the 150 in 1952 when Italian law required a minimum of 150CC to enter the freeways. The 150 sport would be Gilera’s most sold model at 100,000 units sold between 1952 and 1960. Gilera became part of the Piaggio group in 1969.
The 1960 Gilera 150 Sport carried a 152 CC air cooled single cylinder four stroke side valve motor that made 7.5 HP. Pushed through a 4 speed transmission with good suspension on both ends the 150 Sport was capable of speeds in excess of 55 MPH.
This particular 1960 Gilera 150 Sport (VIN # 19710861) is in Bakersfield, California. It is listed as a very reliable and ride-able 9,894 mile motorcycle. It is listed as made by Ducati, but it is clearly a Gilera. It does look to be very complete. The 150 Sport is currently priced at $1,025 with reserve not met
