Post Listing Update: Despite 21 bids on eBay, this Benly did not meet reserve at $10,900.00.
The Honda CB92 Benly Super Sport was built between 1959 and 1962, and was considered by many to be the best small-displacement sport bike of the time. American Honda says that just 599 examples made it into the US – this bike was was 1 of the 288 of which were imported in 1960.
The 124cc parallel twin engine produced 15 horsepower at 10.5k rpm, which was enough to get the 242 pound (dry) CB92 up to about 75 miles per hour. For more on this little jewel, check out this profile from Motorcycle Classics.
This specific Honda CB92 Benly Super Sport received a ‘total ground up rebuild’ with a NOS tank, rear race kit, seat/cowl and front fender. In addition, it has a replica race kit exhaust, handlebars, and rims. The magnesium brake drums were refinished and the whole package is rounded out with Heidenau race tires and Works Performance suspension front and rear. The bike was apparently originally from a California beach town, and after someone stole the fender, tank, and seat the bike sat outside and was left to corrode. Post rebuild, the odometer shows just over 80 miles and the seller says the engine has 1 miles on it and that it’s in perfect running condition.
