The Honda CB92 Benly Super Sport was built between 1959 and 1964, and was considered by many to be the best small-displacement sport bike of the time. American Honda says that just 599 examples made it into the US between ’59 and ’62, though over 24,000 were sold worldwide.
The 124cc parallel twin engine produced 15 horsepower at 10.5k rpm, which was enough to get the 242 pound (dry) CB92 up to about 75 miles per hour. For more on this little jewel, check out this profile from Motorcycle Classics.
Motorcycle Classics also notes that “Honda also supplied a factory racing kit for the CB92, which included go-fast goodies like an open megaphone exhaust, racing camshaft and a 13,000rpm tachometer. Starting in 1961, Honda brochures included the CB92R, which was a standard 92 but with racing parts from the Honda parts bin.” This example features several of the R parts:
– Short Megaphone Exhausts
– HD ignition coil
– HD suspension springs
– Speedo delete – replaced with tachometer
– Speedo cable cap
– Starter block off plate ( kick start only )
– Race handlebars
What’s also cool is that this bike was loaned to Honda’s Collection Hall in Torrance – if you’re in the area you can check out their “Cars, Bikes, & Coffee” once a month.
The seller also provides a cold start video – this bike sounds nice!
