Between 1955 and 1970, Velocette built 5,721 examples of the Venom. A factory-prepped Venom set a world record for being the first bike ever to average over 100 miles per hour in a 24 hour period. Here’s a 53 year old example that spent 30 years on display in a previous owner’s living room.
The Venom featured a 499cc four-stroke single that produced 34 horsepower. It weighed 390 pounds dry and despite the above record, a stock bike was good for just about 100 miles per hour. This is a 1963 example – the year prior Velocette switched from Miller electrics to Lucas.
This example is said to start easily and run strong. It has a new clutch and several Clubman parts – Lucas magneto, TLS front brake, steering damper, Smiths tach, Seymours racing seat, and more. It has a later model gas tank with “several imperfections in the paint”, and the seller includes the original gas tank and seat as part of the sale.
