Post Sale Update: This Super Lassie sold for the opening bid of $2,500.
A Japanese aircraft manufacturer, Kawanishi (eventually rebranded as Shin Meiwa) was looking to expand their product portfolio so they got into motorcycles. I’ve really struggled to find good information on the brand, but it seems that they started motorcycle producion in 1946, called themselves Pointer in the US, and ended production in 1964, making this one of the last motorcycles that they built.
The Super Lassie featured a 90cc engine, electric starter, 12V electrical system, and a rotary gear box. Here’s a period ad with some specs – I chuckled at “0-60 in 25 sec’s”:
This example looks great but it has been sitting in storage for several years. The odometer displays 440 miles and the seller says it’s complete, but it will need a recommissioning – replace the battery, change the fluids, clean the fuel system, etc. You’ll also get several boxes of used Pointer parts including 3 used engines and some body parts. Who’s ready for a rare project? Find this Super Lassie for sale in Careywood, Idaho with an unmet opening bid of $2,500
