Introduced in 1948 the LE contained all sorts of new technology. Swing arm rear suspension with shaft drive, coil ignition, water cooled, aluminum shields for weather protection, trip odometer, floorboards, sound and heat insulation, a glove box, adjustable rear suspension and detachable panniers. It was also expensive and heavy. One member of the British Motorcycle press said “The odd looks will mean it does not appeal to the normal motorcycle buyer”.
The 1964 Velocette LE Mk3 used a 192 CC (12 CID) water cooled four stroke side valve horizontally opposed twin cylinder that made 8 HP. Pushed through a four speed transmission and shaft drive with a weight of 260 LBS the top speed was 50 MPH. 6 volt electrics, adjustable rear (hydraulic) suspension, hydraulic front suspension and removable bags complete the package.
This particular Velocette LE Mk3 (VIN # 6416/34) is in Costa Mesa, California listed as a very original bike that runs. The listing states that there is poor compression in the RH cylinder and that the kick starter is broken. The current price is at $202.50 with reserve not met
