No, it’s not a Honda S90! With that out of the way, here’s an example of the Bridgestone 50 Sport, a tiny ‘sport’ bike originally released in 1965. You might only associate Bridgestone only with tires nowadays, but from ’52-’73, they made bikes ranging from 50cc-350cc. Today’s featured bike was arguably the cream of the 50cc crop, offered in several versions in its home country of Japan, but only brought to the States as the “50 Sport”.

The 48cc engine produced 4.2 horsepower, somehow good enough to get the bike up to over 50 miles per hour. It came with plenty of ‘big cycle’ features, like rotary valves, ‘performance-tuned’ exhaust, and telescopic front forks. The engine was a two-stroke, air-cooled, single-cylinder unit. It came with a rotary transmission – where shifting up from top gear brought you right back to first! Want to learn more? Check out one of the few sites dedicated to Bridgestone Motorcycles.

Bridgestone Sport 50 - Rear Right

This specific Bridgestone 50 Sport (VIN: 3Z028927) has been in the same family for nearly all of its life, and covered 1,663 miles in the process. It’s had some recent engine work to bring it back from the dead, and all is now claimed to be well. There’s some minor corrosion of the chrome on the tank, but in general this is a decent example of a very rare little bike.
