When the first Suzuki models hit America in 1963 it was with three two stroke twins that were very ordinary in performance and style. Nothing that would indicate the new model that would arrive in 1966, the X-6 (T 20 elsewhere). The first production motorcycle with a 6 speed transmission, it allowed a very good two stroke twin to stay right in the powerband from the light to the top end.
The X-6 placed Suzuki firmly in the buying public’s vision, and they made and sold more than 5,000 units per month throughout the 3 plus year model run. It literally placed Suzuki at the very front of the lightweight performance class of bike easily ahead of Honda and all the available European offerings.
The X-6 not only featured a 6 speed transmission, but also a very reliable and fast 247 CC air cooled parallel twin motor with Suzuki’s first duplex tube frame, a clutch package that was up to the task, race bred brakes, oil injection and adjustable suspension while still weighing in at under 300 LBS. The motor made 29 HP making it one of (if not the first) production motorcycles to go over the 1 HP per 10 CC barrier while still being very reliable.
This particular 1967 Suzuki X-6 Hustler (VIN# 31412) is in Las Vegas, Nevada and is listed as a very original survivor with ‘one and only one fault…missing tachometer needle.’ The bike is currently at $1,297 with reserve not met
