1967 Triumph Mountain Cub

In Dual-Sport, England by Abhi1 Comment

In 1953, Triumph introduced a learner bike called the Cub – the idea was that if a rider got started on a Triumph, they’d be more likely to stay with the brand through their riding career. 10 years later, a Trials Cub and Sports Cub were introduced. Management at Johnson Motors (the West Coast Triumph distributor) asked to combine the the more powerful Sports engine with the wide-ratio transmission from the Trials bike to create something that could compete with the dirt bikes coming out of Japan. Thus, the Mountain Cub was born.

For more on this bike and its creation story, check out this article from Motorcycle Classics. The bad news is, these bikes had some reliability issues (especially the earlier models). THe good news is, this specific example has been fully restored with a few extras – Hagon shocks, Sparx rectifier/regulator, and Pazon ignition, among other things.
