Post-Sale Update: After 28 bids on eBay, this Triumph T120TT Special sold for $14,999.
The T120TT was Triumph’s “TT Special”, a US-only 650cc racer straight from the factory built between 1963 and 1967. It was built in response to requests from Bill Johnson, the man behind Johnson Motors, Triumph’s West Coast US distributor. Just 900 were built.
Thanks to high compression pistons, a hotter cam, and upgraded ignition, the TT produced 54 horsepower and pushed them through a close-ratio 4-speed transmission. The speedo, lights, and fork lock were removed, helping to take out 30 pounds from the base T120. Total weight was about 350 pounds. The fuel tank contained 2.5 gallons and was based on the Bonneville unit. For more information, check out this site dedicated to the different ‘Specials’ that Triumph exported to the US.
This specific bike (VIN: T120TT DU 46047) has spent several years in a museum after being ‘redone’ and it ‘shows beautifully with only slight hints of age/patina.’ The original ET ignition has been upgraded to a Boyer electronic unit, and the seller says everything works great.
