Introduced in 1956, the Triumph TR6C Trophy was named to commemorate the British firm’s success in ISDT racing. As the years passed, the TR6C evolved more into a road bike, but it still had the pedigree of an off-roader enjoyed by legends like Steve McQueen.
By 1967, the TR6C was dangerously close to being a Bonneville with only one carb, scrambler pipes, a smaller fuel tank (3.0) gallons, and folding pegs. It was considered to be the desert racer of the group, and was actually built because Johnson Motors (Triumph’s sole US distributor at the time) requested such a bike to target the increasing number of Southern California based off-road enthusiasts. 2042 TR6C models were sold in 1967.
This specific Triumph TR6C Trophy (VIN: TR6CDU57115) got a restoration 10 years ago by Don Hutchinson, and it’s seen just 90 miles since. It’s spent the last 7 years of its life in climate controlled storage, and I’m hoping someone new is able to get this bike dirty again.
