1968 Hodaka Ace 100 MX Custom

A company named PABATCO (Pacific Basin Trading Company) based out of Athena, Oregon negotiated with Hodaka Motorcycles of Japan to produce and market a series of dirt specific bikes in the early 1960’s. Wildly successful from the start, for about 10 years they were THE most successful American dealer. I just happen to know that you could go to Athena and buy a ‘factory fresh’ Hodaka back in the day.

I stopped in Athena, Oregon this last summer for a cup of coffee. You see, my Aunt was born there when my Grandfather worked in his father’s grocery. Though my Mother was born in Pendelton, OR, she was almost certainly conceived in Athena. As it happened, the annual Hodaka reunion was taking place that weekend.

Hodaka Ace 100 MX - Tank

The Hodaka Ace 100 was a direct derivative of the Hodaka Ace 90 the company’s first big time success. The 100 used an air cooled 100 CC two stroke piston ported aluminum motor that produced 9.8 HP. Improved rear suspension (over the 90) and a 4 speed transmission with a 180 LB total weight made this bike a real player in the 125cc racing classes.
