Needs Some Work – 1968 Yamaha YA6

The YA6 was the first Yamaha to feature “Autolube” oil injection, which led to a Safety & Engineering award from Auto & Motor Sport magazine. The Autolube concept was incredibly successful and was a mainstay of Yamaha’s line for years. The YA6? Not so much, it’s a rare find nowadays.

The engine was a 125cc rotary valve single, and it’s probably most significant for the historical value of being the first production two-stroke with oil injection. Yamaha also made a “Santa Barbara” version which was differentiated by all red paint and a chrome tank with the tuning fork logo.

This example has been with the owner since the late 70s. 6 years ago he decided to bring it back to life, so he rebuilt the motor and then “rode it around the neighborhood a couple of times.” Seems like it’s been sitting since, and the seller thinks all it needs is a new battery and some fuel. Expect to do a little more than that, but this is a decent example of a hard to find little Yamaha.
