Post-Listing Update: Despite 9 bids up to $30,105, this Sandcast CB did not meet reserve.
In hindsight, the Honda CB750 was a tremendous sales success, but when Soichiro Honda introduced the bike, he utilized cheap/rough sandcast molds for the engine before it was clear that there would be enough demand to justify buying expensive metal molds. The first 7,414 bikes are known as sandcast CB750s for that reason, and they’re worth a bit more. Here’s beautiful example (VIN: CB750-1000374) that’s no trailer queen – it’s got 24,500 miles on it but it looks great thanks to a repaint and a new set of pipes.
The seller notes that all the sandcast features are there, but there’s a couple of non-original bits: electronic ignition (original points included), the Lotus Root exhaust from Yamiya (according to threads like this, it looks like that’s about 3 grand), and a LoJack alarm system.
