1969 Indian Boy Racer

In 1968 Floyd Clymer bought the Indian Motorcycle name and some of the tooling with the idea of resurrecting the legendary marquee. Clymer was a legend in the motorcycle world before he bought Indian as a publisher of books and magazines, including Cycle. He was a car dealer, a motorcycle dealer and distributor, and mostly successful at all of them. In 1969 he brought out the first ‘New Indian’ the Boy Racer. Clymer died in 1970 and his dream for Indian died with him. Who knows what might have been?

The 1969 Indian Boy Racer was the first of the many models that Clymer brought out under the Indian name. Powered by a 49.9 CC (3.04 CID) air cooled single cylinder two stroke motor that made 4 HP the Boy Racer weighed less than 130 LBS and with it’s stock gearing and 3 speed transmission was good for around 45 MPH if you were a 60 pound 11 year old.

This Indian Boy Racer is in Upland, California and is one of the very early ones as it is powered by a Jawa motor. A terrific frame and suspension set up made this a very nice package for it’s day. In all honesty, I have never seen one in anywhere near this condition at any price. It is listed as a past restoration that hasn’t been run since. The current price is $1,925 with the reserve not met
