Post-Listing Update: After 23 bids on eBay, this Thruxton got up to $15,000 but did not meet reserve.
4-3 Update: Reader Tom D notes that this bike is back up on eBay. The first listing did not get any action at the $25,000 opening bid, so the seller is starting with a much lower opening bid and a reserve. Find it for sale with bidding now at $7,300 and the reserve not yet met
Named after the Thruxton Circuit, the Velocette Venom Thruxton was a factory racer for the road.
In 1961, the Venom set a 24 hour speed record (which still stands for a 500cc bike – read all about it here on The Vintagent). 3 years later, the Venom won its class at Thruxton’s 500 mile endurance race. The next year, the Venom gained the Thruxton name and lots of goodies like a twin-leading shoe brake, giant Amal carb, upgraded cylinder head, and more. Long story short, it was a 40 horsepower racer that went on to win the Thruxton race again as well as the Production TT at the Isle of Man. This specific Velocette Venom Thruxton (VIN: VMT1011C) has 15,179 miles and is being offered by a Porsche mechanic who wanted to keep the cosmetics original while refurbishing the mechanicals. Note that the frame is not original (it’s from a ’63 model), it has stainless steel fenders, and a non-original seat.
