BW stands for Bundeswehr, or Germany’s armed forces, so you can probably guess what this Hercules was designed for!
Built for dispatch riders, the K125BW was built as a successor for Maico’s military M250B, and they were introduced in 1969. The seller says this is a ’70, but the square headlight and telescopic forks would make this a Mk2, which was introduced in 1981. The early bikes had an Earles fork and round headlight, like this:
The 2nd version used a 122cc 2-stroke Sachs engine that put down about 13 horsepower, good for a top speed of approximately 60 miles per hour. This example “needs some minor work”, though the seller doesn’t specify what that will entail. All you’re told is that the motor is free and all the original parts are included, plus a release document from the Bundeswehr and original TUV document. The seller claims this bike was based out of the Fulda Gap (an area between Frankfurt and the old East/West German border that would have been a potential target for a Soviet tank attack) during the Cold War.
