Post Listing Update: This Speedway was pulled off of eBay, final sale price unknown.
In the world of minibikes, the Speedway Silver Shadow may be the most collectible of them all. I’ve featured one in the past that did not meet reserve despite bidding up to $7,500.
The seller of this example says just 20 were built, though I’ve seen a few mentions in the bowels of the internet that suggest the actual production number is 22. Point is, this little scoot is rare. Speedway was a small (both in terms of numbers of employee and the type of two-wheelers they made) bike manufacturer formed by a few defectors from Rupp. They boldly started a factory in the same town of Mansfield, Ohio and went on to make some classic minibikes like the Scorpion and the Widowmaker. The Silver Shadow was relatively quick due to a 125c Sachs motor.
This example is claimed to be mint due to a restoration, though it has been sitting for a while since. To counteract that, the seller had the carb rebuilt and cleaned – he now says the bike “is in impeccable shape.” Find this Silver Shadow in Port Orange, Florida with bidding up to $2,650 and the reserve not yet met
