Post Sale Update: This little Benelli sold for $2,550 after 12 bids on eBay.

Between 1968 and 1973, Benelli offered a series of bikes called the Sport Special. They were offered in 125cc and 250cc version – 70% of which were the smaller displacement. In 1974, the Sport Special was replaced by the 2C.

Benelli had combined forces with MotoBi in 1962 and they shared this bike as a platform. The 125 was silver and red while the 250 was silver and yellow. This is a second series bike, which got slightly higher handlebars and more comfortable riding position. Approximately 20,000 Sport Specials were sold throughout the entire production run.

This example (VIN: 440561) is claimed to run like new thanks to an engine rebuild back in 2009. It’s being offered by the third owner. The second owner brought the bike from Italy to Canada. It resided in Canada for 15 years until the current seller imported it to the US in 2010. The seller says it looks new but I would heartily disagree with that – there’s plenty of wear on the tank and tailpipe. Still, the rims have been rechromed, and the frame/tank were repainted. It’s a fun little Italian that’s old enough to look a little worn in places. Find this Sport Special for sale in Indianapolis, Indiana with bidding up to $1,475 and the reserve not yet met
