Built by Danny Thompson of Triumphs on Broadway (website is incomplete), this Lightning has been turned into a cafe racer with a heavy candy flake paint job.
Let’s start with the Lightning as a general model. As a ’71, this is an oil-in-frame design that was capable of topping 100 miles per hour thanks to the 50 horsepower parallel-twin engine. The new frame was stiffer but it increased the seat height (and many people found the redesign uglier, too).
The work on this specific bike included several new parts: brake shoes, electronic ignition, Progressive shocks + springs, gas tank, and Amal carbs. The seller mistakenly made a joke about how it will leak because it’s British, and I think that’s confusing some bidders.
