The Simson Schwalbe (German for Swallow) was a moped built between 1964 and 1986. They were never officially imported to the US, but here’s one that just crossed the ocean.
It was a very popular vehicle in East Germany, and over 1 million examples were built. It was an iconic bike for the marque and made Simson a worldwide name at the time. As a ’71 model, this bike is of the KR 51/1 series, which had a power bump to a whopping 3.6 horsepower. It had a3-speed transmission and could hit approximately 40 miles per hour.
