Post Listing Update: This Tornado was relisted a couple of times, but bidding never got higher than $3,975 and the reserve was not met.
Benelli is one of the very few motorcycle companies that has been around for over 100 years. An Italian firm (though it’s got more of a Chinese flavor nowadays) that has a great history in small displacement racing, the firm decided to specifically target the US and British markets with a vertical twin – the Benelli Tornado that you see in front of you today.
At the time of its introduction, Benelli claimed the Tornado produced 57 horsepower and was capable of 117 miles per hour, despite its chunky 480 pound weight. The driving dynamics were surprisingly pleasant, thanks to a high revving engine, Marzocchi forks, Ceriani shocks, and one of the biggest drum brakes we’ve seen on a front wheel in a long time. This specific Benelli Tornado (VIN: DGM101390M) has undergone a restoration which included a repaint, a new top end, seals, charging system, clutch, and more. The tach and speedo were rebuilt but the mileage is unknown. The flaws are limited to a minor oil leak and an electric starter that’s not functioning (but the kick starter works fine, as proven with a video). Comes with plenty of spares including a seat, NOS brake shoes, oil filters, and more. What’s nice is that the seller has a website solely focused on his bike wand the work done to it.
