Post Listing Update: This Z1 did not get any interest at the original BIN of $20,000. The seller then relisted the bike with a high reserve to see what the market would do, and bidding got up to $18,000 without meeting reserve. Thinking he/she could then sell the bike for $18,000, the seller then relisted the bike again with a BIN of $18,000 instead of just lowering the reserve on the previous auction before it closed. Bidding then only got up to $10,600 with the reserve not met.

The Kawasaki Z1 900 was the direct result of Honda’s incredible CB750 and good old fashioned escalation. It went through several years of development, with the final product cementing the place of Kawasaki in America. There are some things done so well, that when they’re redone, they have to be exactly the same. Star Wars movies and the Kawasaki Z1 900 are some examples that come to mind. They would have been fine if left alone, but as a fan, I am glad they didn’t.

Back to the original. The current owner was storing his 1973 Kawasaki Z1 (VIN: Z1F15811) in a dealership owned by his friend, and since the dealership changed hands, the bike must be dealt with. It currently sits with 43,878 miles, though the owner boasts that the paint and the pipes are original. While that is not necessarily low miles, I am glad this bike graced the streets before being stored in a dealer. The original tool kit, owner’s manual, and boxes of parts are included, which leads me to believe that the current 59 year old owner may have owned this bike for a significant part of his life. A classic story to go with a classic bike. The $23,000 asking price may seem high as well, but I can only imagine how attached I would be to a bike like this. Will you shoot this guy an email, or maybe an offer? For more information on the Z1, check out this story on Motorcyclist.
