The evolution of the SF (Super Freni/Super Brakes), the SF1 was introduced in 1973 and evolved with a Denso speedo/tach instead of the prior Smiths gauges plus a new exhaust system.
When the SF was introduced in 1970, it was given the Super Brakes name because it got a new twin-leading setup. Magazine reviews appreciated the build quality and reliability but found issue with the suspension, shifter, and clutch. For more on the Super Freni 1, check out this profile from Motorcycle Classics, who note that Cycle Guide called it a ‘flawed masterpiece’ in a period review.
This Euro-market example (VIN: 13120) has just 770 miles and is claimed to be in extremely nice condition. It was apparently owned by Wes Cooley Senior since 1980! When the current seller acquired the bike, he/she cleaned it up and then rebuilt the carbs and gave it a oil change and new air filter. The seat cover is coming apart and there’s a couple of small dings under the expansion chamber. Because it’s a Euro-market bike, it has a left side brake and right side shifter!
