In 1974, Jaroslav Falta came within 6 points of winning the 250cc World Championship. It all came down to the final round of the Championship, during which Falta had a slim deficit to overcome to go from 2nd place to 1st overall. Many believe that Russian riders kept ganging up on Falta to protect Russian KTM rider Gennady Moiseev, the holder of first place. Falta was still able to win, but the Russians protested saying Falta had jumped the start. FIM agreed with the Russians, which is why I can’t say that Falta won the 250cc World Championship in 1974. To commemorate this almost-victory, the CZ Falta 400 Replica was released.
With the exception of engine displacement (available in both 250cc and 380cc options), the Falta reps were basically the same. Features included air shocks with alloy bodies, alloy rims, and a leather belt to keep the aluminum gas tank in place. For more on the Falta replicas, check out this profile on Motorcycle Action Mag.
This example (Frame# 981.8.000014 / Motor# 981.5.000221) is claimed to be very original as it still features the Jikov carb, metal rear fender, and even the hand made leather tank strap. Find this CZ Falta 400 for sale in Woodinville, Washington for $8,575 here on Craigslist.
