Post Listing Update: This R100RS did not meet reserve despite 16 bids up to $7,200 on eBay.
Bikes built in the first model year of BMW’s R100RS were also known as the “RS77”, and they’re worth distinguishing due to year-specific features like silver/blue paint, blue anodized ATE calipers, and blue pinstriping.
The motor was the same throughout the run, a 980cc boxer twin that was produced 70 horsepower and was able to get the bike up to 124 miles per hour. Between 1976 and 1984, BMW built 33,648 examples of this model. For more on the RS, check out this article on Motorcycle Classics. Or, check out this site dedicated to the first-year models.
This example (VIN: 6180053) has 25,419 miles and it’s been known by the seller (Max BMW) since May of 2015. At that time, they performed a full service that included leakdown and compression tests, and installed several new pieces – center stand, fork gaiters, fuel lines, and tires. They also rebuilt the carbs in preparation for a sale. The new owner had Max BMW continue to service the machine and added parts such as a larger BMW oil pan, Ohlins rear suspension, Enduraspark ignition system, Enduralast charging system, and fork emulators. Because it’s being sold by a dealer, you’ll have to budget an extra $179 for some sort of dealer documentation on top of the auction result.
