The RD400 came about when Yamaha made the RD350 a bit bigger in 1976 – displacement was 399cc. Thanks to 44 horsepower, the bigger RD was capable of hitting the ton with a top speed of 105 miles per hour. Most people know the 400 simply for being an easier to ride upgrade over the 350, but it was also notable for being the first production motorcycle to feature cast wheels as standard. This one stands out as it’s had just one owner and it impressively comes with “every piece of documentation since time of purchase.”
This example has just 3,371 miles and is said to be completely stock with no modifications. What’s great is all of the documentation – sales receipt/invoice, Yamaha identification card, sales brochure, service manual, owner’s manual, two keys, and a can of Yamalube oil from 1978. What’s less great is the asking price, which is around twice what I typically see. It’s nice, but is it that nice? We’ll see what the market says – and there’s always the ‘best offer’ button…
