1978 BMW R100RS

In Germany, Touring by AbhiLeave a Comment

The BMW R100RS was the flagship of BMW’s late 70s lineup. With the world’s first full factory fairing, it was Germany’s answer to Japan’s big tourers like the Goldwing.

The BMW R100RS had 70 horsepower and was capable of 124 miles per hour. It was incredibly reliable and a great touring bike – whether or not you thought it was a work of art or a bit bulbous is a matter of personal preference.

For what it’s worth, I happen to know the seller and I think he’s a great guy with exquisite taste in vehicles. If the military transport in the back of the first photo or the Alfa in the background of the second photo doesn’t prove that out, you can also see the back of a Krauser MKM 1000 in that same second photo that he bought from us over at Iconic.

This example has 35,647 miles and it’s had a lot of work done in the last 3k miles. Highlights of the upgrades include Dyna ignition, Sito reproduction mufflers, Spiegler brake lines, Krauser bags, and several new OEM/rebuilt parts: valve covers, steering damper, head bearings, carbs, rear master cylinder, center stand, etc.
