Post-Sale Update: After 9 bids on eBay, this Ducati 900 SD Darmah sold for $7,000.
After the classic 750 GT of the 70s, Ducati looked to evolve with a simpler engine, and they ended up with the first ‘square case’ bevel twin – the 860 GT. It was a commercial flop, so just a few years later, the Ducati 900 SD Darmah was released, and it was a much better sport tourer. The SD (Sport Desmo) brought commercial success, and even resulted in a sportier version called the 900 SSD. The paint scheme went on to become a Ducati classic – Ducati themselves even honored the lovely black and gold livery with the 2007 Sport 1000 Special Edition, a limited run of just 100 bikes only made for the US.
The air-cooled twin produced 74 horsepower and was capable of a top speed of 115 mph. Fuel consumption was higher than we would have guessed, at 41 mpg. It gave up some power to its Japanese competition, but it also weighed considerably less. You got plenty of high quality components, like Brembo discs front and rear, Ceriani front forks, and the pricey (and distinctive) gold Campagnolo wheels.
This specific Ducati 900 SD Darmah has covered less than 16,000 miles, and is original except for a Conti 2-1 exhaust and K&N air filters to replace the airbox. The current owner purchased this bike 26 years ago, and almost immediately had a partial restoration done.
