1979 Kawasaki Z650

In Japan, Less than 5k, Standard by Mathieu Guyot-SionnestLeave a Comment

Based on the success of the Z1 that put Kawasaki at the top of the large displacement motorcycle market, the Japanese manufacturer decided to update their offering in the mid-size engine market. But unlike the big bikes – where the Z1 was nearly by itself at 900+ cubic centimeters, the mid-size market was already full of models: the Honda CB400, the Suzuki GT380/550 and GS550, the Yamaha RD400, etc…But Kawasaki was smart and decided to create its own market by launching the Z650 in 1976. Therefore, they created a real alternative for people wanting a mid-size bike with slightly more power than the market could offer at the time.

With the same look as its big sister, the Z650 really looks like a scaled down version of the Z1. Even though it has the same look, the engine is very different once we look closely. In addition, the chassis was reinforced with larger tube diameters, yielding better handling. Above all, the chassis was now able to support the engine power, something that was a bit of an issue with the Z1. In the end, the Z650 really had some impressive specs with an engine developing around 65 hp for 465 lb, capable of reaching 125mph. You can read some more information about the Z650 here on Classic-Motorbikes.

This Z650 is in mint condition with its beautiful blue color. The bike has 11k original miles and the seller claims it has been garaged its whole life. Last year, the bike was serviced and got new spark plugs, carb kit and air filters. The oil and filter have been changed as well. For the sale, the owner will give some extra parts like the original manual and handbook, the original lights, seat and foot pegs.
