Apparently inspired by the Yamaha XS650 Special, the Triumph T140D Bonneville Special was an exercise in styling that also introduced a few features that were incorporated into future Bonnies.
New features that became part of the T140E include a modified grab rail and a top-mounted rear disc caliper. The styling features included black paint with gold pinstriping, 7-spoke Lester mags, a 2-into-1 exhaust, polished fork sliders, and a couple of other smaller things, all designed specifically for the US market. Approximately 500 units were built.
This specific Triumph T140D Bonneville Special has 11,000 miles and is claimed to be all original. Unfortunately, it has not been ridden in 5 years, so you’ll need to put some work into this currently unrestored sleeping beauty. The sale includes the manual and period advertising brochures, the latter of which I would love to see.
Find this Triumph T140D Bonneville Special for sale here on Craigslist in Oak Lawn, Illinois for $3,000.
