Before Tesla introduced the Roadster, this was the most produced American electric car with 4,444 units. It might only have had a range of 50 miles and a top speed of 38 miles per hour, but one thing it had over the Tesla? Style! Ok, maybe not, but this sure would get more attention than a Tesla Roadster or Model S.
This vehicle actually started as the “CitiCar” from Sebring-Vanguard, but the designs were eventually sold to Commuter Vehicles. By this point, the motor put out 6 horsepower (0-25 mph in 6.2 seconds!) and the batteries were moved behind the bumpers. The body was a an aircraft grade aluminum tube space frame surrounded by ABS plastic. For more on the Comuta-Car, check out this article on the Washington Times.
This example (VIN: 1111B1C20AS000796) has 2,097 miles and recently received a light reconditioning with new bumpers. It’s in Sebring Green with white interior, top, and stripes. I really hope someone snaps this up and commutes in it!
