4-9-16 Update: Well, it looks like the sale from 2 years ago, when this bike was last listed, did not go through. It’s back up for sale with bidding up to $15,100
Post Sale Update: This Super Sport sold for $23,000 on eBay.
The Ducati 900SS was built as a sportier version of the 860GT, it was designed to evoke a similarity to the classic 750SS Desmo. Unfortunately, bikes like the Mike Hailwood Replica were more in demand, relegating the 900SS to commercial mediocrity. As the model evolved, the 900SS moved from street-legal racer to eccentric sport-tourer, gaining comfort and reliability at the expense of appreciation from traditional Ducati fans.
Though it’s listed as a ’81, this is actually a ’82 bike. This 1982 model represents the last year of production, right after an update that included new colors, a revised dual seat, and painted rims. Improvements were also made to the valve guides and the alternator. Only 335 of these bikes were made in 1982. This specific bike actually traded hands on eBay back in November of 2010.
