Post Listing Update: After being relisted, this Motocompo was pulled off of eBay, final sale price unknown.
I don’t know why I like the Motocompo so much. It’s just so quirky and adorable that I can’t help but want one. Honda designed the Motocompo as a 50cc folding scooter that would fit in the trunk of subcompact cars Honda was making at the time, like the City. In fact, the City’s trunk was designed specifically to house the Motocompo. Because they were sold for just three years (and only in Japan), they’re difficult to find in the US. This one’s a bit more expensive than the usual examples I’ve featured, but that’s what the “Make Offer” button is for!
The defining feature was the mechanism that enabled the handlebars and seat to fold in almost flush with the top of the bike. It weighed little enough that an average sized man could pick it up and then put it in the trunk of a City or Civic.
Though the asking price might be a little high (this is the same seller who’s offering the cool SRV250 and he wants less for that bike), the seller has done a good job documenting this bike with photos – this is one of the better chances you might have to see details of a Motocompo that you don’t get to see in other listings. This bike is said to have been legally imported into the US and it’s got a clear Arizona title and registration. Previous owners have made some modifications – allen head bolts, new fuel lines, different carb (stock included), updated seat cover, and a bigger battery. The seller says the carb might need an adjustment but everything works. There’s understandable cosmetic wear and some decals are missing, but overall it’s not a bad package.
