The street based brother of the R80G/S, the BMW R80ST did not sell particularly well – only 5,963 were built over two years. But it’s become a bit of a cult classic, and plenty of owners feel that this was the best handling motorcycle BMW had made up to that point.
Only about 1,000 made it to the US, and there were some non-obvious changes from the GS variant. It got less travel in the suspension, a 19″ front wheel and a total weigh of 396 pounds. The engine produced about 50 horsepower, good for a top speed just over 100 miles per hour. For more on the R80ST, check out this summary from Charles Petrie.
This specific BMW R80ST has recently had the carbs and front brake rebuilt – the latter of which is an aftermarket unit. It comes with a Corbin seat and a Works rear shock, though the shock needs to be rebuilt. This R80 has just over 36,500 miles on it and is unfortunately missing the side covers.
