Post Listing Update: Despite 36 bids up to $4,109, this ST did not meet reserve on eBay.

For two years, BMW created a street-focused variant of the R80GS. They only sold 5,963 examples of what was named the R80ST, and approximately 15% of them were exported to the US. This fairly original example has just 14,230 miles.

Changes to the ST compared to the GS included less travel in the suspension, a 19″ front wheel and a total weight of 396 pounds. The engine produced about 50 horsepower, good for a top speed just over 100 miles per hour.

This example (VIN: WB1034902D6207149) was inherited by a son who acquired approximately 30 bikes from his father’s estate. As he’s not interested in motorcycles, he sold most of them off. According to the current owner, the paint is 100% original and it’s held up well because the bike has spent most of its life under a cover. There are a couple of minor flaws in the tank (a chip in the front and a scratch on the rear), as well as some scratches in the fenders and side covers. The seller also claims there there is no corrosion to be found anywhere. Positives include a recent service, new battery, new Metzeler tires, and a rebuilt carb/brake master cylinder. It’s also got Euro low handlebars, but your perspective will determine if that’s a positive or not…
