Based on the popular CB900F (1979-1983) and driven by the same 1062cc air-cooled inline four engine that drove the CB1100R (“but with less of the hand-crafted attention that made the 1100R so much of a cult bike,” according to Classic Motorcycle Mechanics), the CB1100F was sold from 1982 to 1984.

Different markets saw different versions, and this example, paying homage to the famous French 24-hour endurance race, was only available in Europe. Whereas US versions would have had a tiny quarter fairing, this is a purely naked machine with a slightly sportier riding position and cool boomerang Comstar wheels.

“There was not much difference in the handling between the two versions,” according to Classic Motorcycle Mechanics. “Although offering reasonably light steering and neutral handling – much better than you’d expect of a machine weighing 592 lbs tanked up – both versions still suffered from a measure of instability during high-speed cornering.”

Peak power output was 110 horsepower at 8500 rpm, with 71.5 lb-ft of torque at 7500 rpm. That gave the bike a 140mph top speed, apparently. Bikes like the Kawasaki GPZ11000R could outgun it, but the Honda managed to hold its own at more license-friendly speeds.

“The bike has A LOT of power thanks to the recent carb rebuilds with all genuine Honda parts,” according to the seller.

The paint scheme is original and has remained untouched since rolling off the factory floor, but for the engine covers, which have been powder coated. The Vance and Hines exhaust, meanwhile, is period-correct, according to the seller.

Mileage is something I would seek clarity on if looking to purchase this bike. In photos, it has 26,275 km on the clock. That works out to 16,315 miles. The listing suggests the bike has 40,000 miles, but I’m guessing this is a typo.

For their part, the seller says the in-kilometers display reading “is not warranted to be the original” but is “not far” from accurate.

This CB1100F is for sale for $10,500 in Sanford, Florida, here on eBay.
