Sellers – if you have questions about how you should be taking photos for a for sale listing, just look at this one. Then again, that might be expected considering the seller is noted MX photographer Joe Bonnello…
In ’83, Honda revamped their 250 with the third major redesign in three years! They cut 12.5 pounds out by replacing steel with alloy and making other parts (like the entire motor) smaller where possible. The bike weighed 212 pounds, making it lightest in the market. Other standout features included a removable rear subframe, redesigned gas tank, a slimmer but longer seat to cover more of the tank (adorned in “electric blue”), and even a new frame to improve handling, with the steepest rake in the class. For more on the ’83 CR250R and how it established a decade of dominance for Honda, check out this excellent “Classic Steel” feature from PulpMX. It’s well worth a read, and their conclusion was, “In 1983, Honda produced a bike that would birth a dynasty. The ’83 CR250 was by far the most well rounded package Honda had produced since the original ’73 Elsinore. It was fast, smooth, easy-to-ride and handled great (with a bit of headshake to keep you honest)…If not for its reliability [of the rear shock] issues, it would have been a nearly perfect racer. As it was, it was a bike that defined its era and helped propel Honda into a Motocross powerhouse.”
