Post Listing Update: Despite 12 bids on eBay up to $3,900, this ST did not meet reserve.
The street based brother of the R80G/S, the BMW R80ST did not sell particularly well – only 5,963 were built over two years. But it’s become a bit of a cult classic, and plenty of owners feel that this was the best handling motorcycle BMW had made up to that point.
Only about 1,000 made it to the US, and there were some non-obvious changes from the GS variant. It got less travel in the suspension, a 19″ front wheel and a total weigh of 396 pounds. The engine produced about 50 horsepower, good for a top speed just over 100 miles per hour. This specific R80ST (VIN: 6207933) has an aftermarket fairing (looks like a Rifle unit), the OEM luggage, and just under 35,000 miles. It is claimed to be nicely taken care of and is ready for a new owner.
