For two years, BMW created a street-focused variant of the R80GS. They only sold 5,963 examples of what was named the R80ST, and approximately 15% of them were exported to the US.
Changes to the ST compared to the GS included less travel in the suspension, a 19″ front wheel and a total weight of 396 pounds. The engine produced about 50 horsepower, good for a top speed just over 100 miles per hour. Though sales were initially poor, the ST has become a bit of a cult classic, and plenty of owners feel that this was the best handling motorcycle BMW had built up to the time of its creation.
This example is being offered by the second owner, who has had the bike for 3 decades. There are 48,960 miles on the odometer and the seller claims the bike starts fine but the carbs need to be cleaned. He also says that it’s “priced low enough for you to take in and have professionally adjust if desired”, and I will agree that it’s one of the lower asking prices I’ve seen for a R80ST in a while. The sale also includes “two small color matched fairings” but it’s unclear if they’re different fairings or just duplicates of the same design:
