In 1983, the Moto Guzzi Le Mans Mark III was brought back after MG was able to get the smaller engine certified under US emissions – for a few years the US was stuck with a 949cc engine. With the arrival of the Mark III, Guzzi created approximately 80 technical changes of varying severity from the Mark II model.
The Mark III produced 76 horsepower at the crank and was capable of about 132 miles per hour. One of the notable improvements was Guzzi’s “Nigusil” lining – similar to the Nikasil I’m more familiar with in BMW engines but this was a shortening of Nickel-Guzzi-Silicon. This specific Moto Guzzi Le Mans Mark III (VIN: ZGUVFAVF1EM100242) has a healthy 55,300 miles but has not been refurbished. It does have plenty of quality upgrades for the Mark III, including Dyna electronic ignition, Dell’orto 40mm carbs (up 4mm from the originals), Bub headers, LaFranconi pipes, Agustini cam, Tarozzi clipons, Koni adjustable shocks…this list goes on and on, and they’re all upgrades that I wouldn’t have a problem with. If for some reason you want to remove these modifications, plenty of the original parts are included with the sale – as is the chin fairing that the seller has taken off for aesthetic preferences.
