1984 Moto Guzzi V65 SP

The V65SP was Guzzi’s mid-sized tourer, complete with full upper and lower fairings – it was the little brother to the 1000 Spada.

The 643cc engine (with Heron-chambered pistons) put out 52 horsepower to handle the 438 pounds of dry weight. Keeping that power in check was three disc brakes (which were linked – the foot pedal controlled the rear disc and one of the front discs), and period journalists considered the V65 SP incredibly stable. For an account on what it’s like to ride one, check out this story on MotoringWorld in India.

The seller of this example has owned it for eight years, and he’s letting it go to “branch out and experience other motorcycles” as he only has room for one at a time. He’s rebuilt almost the entire brake system in the last year and a half with new master cylinders, braided lines, a new caliper, and a new rotor. It’s also got a new starter but cosmetically it’s highly original. I appreciate that the seller discloses the known issues and I think it’s missing the lower fairing panels but I can’t determine if those were factory standard or an option. Plus, taller riders frequently remove that fairing as it can interfere with the rider’s knees. Either way, it’s a cool and decidedly 80s touring bike that you don’t see every day…or month…or year. I can’t remember the last time I saw one in the wild!
