Post Listing Update – This Zundapp has been relisted several times – the latest at a cheaper price of $4,200, but it has not been sold.
Also known as the Model 537, the KS80 was available in three variants: the Super, the Sport, and a super rare (just 2 produced) Super Sport. The Super was the first version, and approximately 6,000 examples were produced in silver or red. Despite the diminutive size, it had several features normally found on bigger bikes like a damping-adjustable shock with 5 settings, 4-way flashers, disc brake (up front), a helmet lock, and more. Per the seller, this is just one of two known examples in the US.
The 537 got several upgrades from its predecessors, including a new steel tube frame, new suspension, upgraded alternator (to support a H4 headlight), and a revised motor. It wasn’t easy to find specifications of this model, but the seller claims that the 2-stroke 80cc motor is sufficient to get the bike up to 65 miles per hour. There is a website dedicated to the KS80 Super, calling it “the best lightweight motorcycle of the 80s” but admitting that “the reasons for buying a KS80 Super are not rational, but primarily emotional.” It’s in German, but you can click this link to see a translated version.
This bike has a healthy 19,248 miles on the odometer but it was restored in Germany at some point before being imported here. It’s said to be ready to ride or show and everything works as it should, though the seller points out that the tachometer will not work without a battery.
