Post Sale Update: After 15 bids on eBay, this GS sold for $7,200.
Arguably the motorcycle that created the ‘adventure bike’ segment, the R80GS (and successors) has been invaluable to BMW. It’s also becoming harder and harder to find a good example.
This example (VIN: WB1034804F6363133) has 59,000 miles and is claimed to be as original as possible – the coil and ignition cables are not original, the decals and seat cover are reproductions, and the exhaust system was ceramic coated a few years ago. The seller notes that there are some defects – the front fender has been cracked and repaired though you can see evidence of the latter. There’s also some chips in the paint and you won’t get the owner’s manual, luggage, or racks. Since the bike received about $1,000 of work last year, it’s been ridden approximately 1,000 miles and had another service. It’s claimed to ‘look, run, shift, and ride as a 30 year old classic should.’
