Originally introduced in 1978 by a suburb of Arctic Cat called Spirit Marine, the “WetBike” was a jetski that rode like a motorcycle. It was released a bit after Kawasaki had debuted their original jet ski, and the WetBike differed as steering was done via the handlebars rotating the front ski, as opposed to rotating the hydrojet. Owners say these are difficult to ride – the owner of this example is letting it go for that very reason.
The first generation of WetBike utilized a 723cc Suzuki two-stroke motor that produced 50 horsepower. At rest it sits slightly submerged, though once you hit about 13 miles per hour, the skis provide enough lift to crest ride on the top of the water. You have to check out this promotional video, which briefly includes a WetBike being towed behind a motorcycle. It also shows people carving up the water at impressive lean angles – I’d think it would suck to lowside one of these things but they do show someone sort of doing so in the video:
The seller of this example says that it “starts right up” but he tried riding it at a lake and couldn’t figure out how to do so.
