Post Sale Update: After 22 bids on eBay, this little Honda sold for $4,850.
Considered by some as the ultimate Honda Z50, the “Christmas Special” was a limited edition that officially had the model name of “Z50RD” – the D was for “Dealer”. Honda gave two examples to each of their top dealers, though some called it the “Chrome Edition” seeing as nearly every part on the bike (even the frame!) was chromed.
This example (VIN: jh2a80206gs703216) is part of a 60 bike collection of Hondas – the seller is getting older and plans on selling approximately 25 of his vintage bikes so I’ll make sure I keep my eyes open for you to see what other goodies he might be letting go. The seller also will include the original sales sheet and owner identification card. He acquired the bike in 1987 through a newspaper advertisement and stored it in his living room for just under 3 decades before his wife made him move out with the rest of his bikes in a barn. The original owner claims that this had been ridden for just 1-1.5 hours, while the current seller says that he hasn’t touched it except for changing the oil the first year he had it. The seller says “on a 1 to 10 scale a honest 9.9” and it seems he took steps to ensure that it was properly stored.
