Post Sale Update: This Moto Guzzi Lario V65 sold on eBay for $2,150.
The Moto Guzzi Lario V65 was almost like a baby LeMans, but it was one of the fastest pushrod 650cc bikes ever built. Capable of nearly 125mph, it at one point broke multiple Land Speed Records, and the distinctive bodywork made this MG stand out.
There’s only one thing you need to worry about, but it’s very severe – these bikes have a well-known issue of the exhaust valves self-destructing, which ends up taking out half the engine. People have found some Suzuki valves to be excellent replacements, and there’s apparently someone in Australia who specializes in bulletproofing Lario engines with Suzuki valves. There’s also a company called Stein-dinse that offers durable valves with a slightly different shape. No matter what alternative you choose, make sure this bike has had the valves addressed. We have to admit – the fact that this seller doesn’t mention valves at all is a minor cause for concern, so we’d definitely ask about it.
This specific Moto Guzzi Lario is in good shape and has had lots of recent work – check the listing for details. The mechanicals seem to be good, though there are minor cosmetic issues regarding paint (which should probably be expected with a bike this old). The bike is missing its chin spoiler, which is apparently still with the previous owner. That’s an odd situation which should be analyzed closely before pulling the trigger on this bike, but it seems to be in great shape for a regular rider otherwise.
Find this Moto Guzzi Lario for sale here on eBay for $2,500 in Newtown, New Hampshire. Note that the seller refers to the reserve as being set low, so he may not even realize that the bike is currently set as a “Buy-It-Now” for only $2,500.
