Post-Sale Update: After 27 bids on eBay, this Suzuki GSX-R 50 sold for $1,326.
The GSX-R 50 was Suzuki’s take on the street-legal minibike movement of the 80s. The Yamaha YSR50 and Honda NSR50 are the more common options, but in our eyes, the Suzuki GSX-R 50 was the best looking, due to the full fairings, and ‘little engine that could’ graphics packages, despite all of 5.2 hp coming from the air-cooled engine. Check out the “Hyper Sports R” decal on the tank!
This baby gixxer is easily the hardest of the Japanese minibikes to find in the US, as it was only produced for 2 years as a JDM bike only. Making just 5.2 hp and weighing 140 pounds, this won’t be much more than a novelty item, but these mini-bikes can still be a lot of fun. This blue and white paint scheme was the most common of the packages, matching what you could find in the 1100cc big brother of the time:
The seller has shared a video of this bike on a test ride:
This specific Suzuki GSX-R 50 has recently received new Continental tires and a complete service so that it’s a one-kick bike. Parts availability is becoming a slight issue with these bikes – don’t be shocked if you find you have to adapt something originally designed for the Honda or Yamaha competitors.
