Two reasons for featuring this bike. One: I adore the GSPD bikes from BMW and this looks like a solid example. Two: it gives me an excuse to share this fantastic article from Road & Track.
First, the bike: registered in ’88, it spent nearly all of its life in Switzerland and Belgium before going to the UK a few months ago. It’s claimed to be in ‘fine running order’ and it has 58,200 miles on the odometer.
Find this R80GSPD for sale in Kent, England here at Godin Sporting Cars and Motorcycles for $11,509.
Second, the article: Gaston Rahier won the Paris Dakar twice on BMWs, but the second time was very surprising as he had binned the bike in a press event before the race and BMW didn’t have a spare. Read the article by Chris Cantle (and enjoy the included videos) to learn more about how we won – but don’t forget that Rahier was so short that he couldn’t touch the ground when he was riding the BMW!
