Here’s a nice example of one of the classic 80s sportbikes – Suzuki’s biggest Gixxer. It’s recently been gone through by a seller who’s owned over 10 examples of the model and he says this is the best he’s seen.
The GSX-R 1100 was introduced in 1986, and the 1,052cc inline four engine produced 137 horsepower and weighed 434 pounds. This example has a high quality repaint though under fluorescent light you can see a slight ‘orange peel’ in the blacks. The forks, swingarm, and wheels were powder coated black. The only non-stock parts seem to be different jets in the carbs and a modern Yoshimura header and exhaust. There’s some cosmetic flaws as you’d expect from something that’s 30 years old, but in general it’s a nice rider quality motorcycle from someone who’s clearly passionate about Gixxers.

Post-Sale Update: This Suzuki GSX-R 1100 did not meet reserve at $4,450. Following on up a likely touring bike with a giant front fairing - the BMW R65, today we've got a much more unlikely touring candidate - the Suzuki GSX-R 1100. This first year example has had a Targa…
Featuring 137 horsepower and weighing just 434 pounds, the 1100 GSX-R was the fastest bike on the block at the time. Introduced right after the United States lowered the import tax on bikes above 700ccs to 24.4 percent (from over 39 percent), the bike even seemed like a relative bargain.…
